Adoption Information

Is Adoption right for me?

Expectant mothers have choices when it comes to planning. When you consider choosing parents and making an open adoption plan, you play an active role in every part of the process. You are able to customize your own plan.

You have many choices and there are lots of things to consider:

  • Are you unsure about having an abortion and not ready to parent?
  • Do you want to provide your child with a 2-parent family?
  • Do you want to provide your child financial stability?

Making an adoption plan allows you to:

  • Pursue your life goals and plans
  • Live independently
  • Prevent the financial responsibility of parenting
  • Choose if you want a long-term relationship with the baby’s father
  • Develop an ongoing relationship with your child

Types of Adoption

There have been significant changes to the adoption process in recent decades. These changes now allow for more options and flexibility to parents who make this choice.

Open Adoption

Open adoption leaves the door open for communication between you, your child, and your child’s adoptive family. This option allows you to share information between you and the potential adoptive parents. This gives you the chance to meet the family, learn about each other, and see if they are a good fit. Open adoption also allows you to continue communicating with your child on an agreed-upon basis.

Closed Adoption

A closed adoption means that your information will be kept completely private. This process uses a third party, like an attorney or agency, to communicate. You will not have any communication directly with the parents during or after the adoption process.
